Engagement Ring Trends for 2022

Exciting new trends in engagement rings for 2022

Are you getting engaged any time soon? Engagement rings, wedding bands, bridal sets and marriage sets… the choices are endless. If you’re in the market for a stunning bridal set and don’t know where to start, we’re covering our favorite engagement ring trends of 2022. So many beautiful options!

What are the top 2022 ring trends?

In general, we’re seeing a more personal approach to weddings. From the party to the actual rings, couples are choosing based on their unique taste instead of following tradition. Nevertheless, some styles and choices have become more popular this year. If you’re in the market, here are our favorite engagement ring trends of 2022 and 2023.

1. Vintage revisited

The Bridgerton craze has also reached engagement rings. In 2022 and 2023, engagement rings are looking to emulate the classic charm of old-world jewelry. The main feature of old European and British-style engagement rings is their subtle detail. These rings have delicate, romantic designs that go against the minimalist trend of years past.

The new wave of vintage-inspired rings feature multiple stones, sometimes several diamonds and a lot of detail. Other stones are also gaining popularity, similar to a couple hundred years ago when wedding and engagement rings also featured sapphires, rubies and opals. These other stones offer different color options for couples that don’t love the classic diamond look. It’s a great way to show originality!

2. Customized heirloom rings

Our team loves when engagement rings have a touch of family history. Using heirloom jewelry to create a unique engagement ring is a great way of adding personality to this special moment.

You can either change a pre-existent ring to fit the bride’s style, or take a completely different piece of jewelry to create a ring. In fact, the best results come from mixing elements of the heirloom piece with new materials. For example, a vintage 20s cocktail ring might be stunning simply by swapping the gemstones. We could also add a second band to modernize the look. If you have a necklace or gemstone earrings, we could also take those stones and create a beautiful new ring that brings together both families.

For further customization, getting a whole personalized set is the best option. Since heirloom rings are unique, finding a matching wedding band can be difficult and many times, plain impossible. By creating a customized wedding set, you’ll be getting an engagement ring and two wedding bands that complement each other.

3. Moi et toi rings

Moi et toi is one of the top engagement ring trends in 2022. For those that aren’t familiar, this ring means “you and me” in French. It names a type of ring that places two gems side by side or close to each other to represent how two souls become one. The original moi et toi rings had gemstones that each represented one of the partners. Nowadays, you can either choose different stones (based on birthstones or just color preference) or go for a more minimalist option and choose the same stone for both.

FUN FACT: One of the latest people to use a moi et toi ring for their engagement was Megan Fox. Fiancée Machine Gun Kelly gifted her a stunning ring with a green emerald and a classic diamond that together form a heart shape. This is a good example of a new take on this classic.

4. Oval shaped diamonds

In line with the vintage trend seeing a resurgence, oval-shaped gemstones (diamonds or else) are seeing a comeback. This classic cut means the stone has been cut in an oval shape, slightly more elongated than a traditional round cut. Many couples choose oval because it’s one of the cuts that look the largest, without increasing the actual value of the stone itself. Compared to the round cut, oval engagement rings look larger and brighter.

In 2022, we’re seeing oval engagement rings both as solitaires and as part of a set. The final look is always feminine, with a touch of timeless charm that will compliment your style for decades to come.

5. Fully customized engagement rings

While getting inspired by current trends is typical, we’re seeing more and more couples go for completely customized engagement rings. These one-of-a-kind pieces are a favorite because they can represent everything that makes a couple unique. Whether you want to include birthstone gems, their favorite cut, a double (or triple) band, or specific materials, you can do so in a unique design!

We love getting together with the couple (or just the groom) to figure out the design that would truly represent their love. Creating a ring from scratch can be a slightly longer process than getting a ready-made one, but it can also be more fulfilling. In general, you’ll have a few consultations to nail down the design, and the end product can then be adjusted for fit once the bride has tried it.

6. Solitaire rings

Because of the popularity of vintage styles, many couples are choosing larger gemstones as a solitaire piece. Solitaires are rings that have a single gemstone at the center of the band. If you’re going for a very large gemstone, a solitaire design can make the stone shine by itself. It is also a good option for people with dainty fingers, since the single stone won’t overcrowd the hand.

7. Diamond halo

Contrasting with the classic solitaire, halo rings are rising in popularity this year. The “halo” is basically a set of smaller stones encircling a larger center stone. Although the classic halo is made of diamonds, you can also spice it up and choose gemstones with a different color.

Halo-set rings add plenty of shine to an engagement ring, and can help make the main stone look bigger. Many couples choose a halo setting to create the effect of a larger stone without the extra cost.

Keep in mind that halo rings are also more difficult to pair in a wedding set. If you’re looking to wear both your engagement and your wedding band at the same time, we recommend going for a set.

8. Matching wedding sets

This is one of our favorite trends that has grown since the early 2010s. A wedding set is simply a set of an engagement ring and two wedding bands that fully complement each other. We love wedding sets because they are convenient and make the whole wedding planning easier on the couple.

Instead of worrying about clashing metals, gemstone colors that don’t fit together or styles that don’t compliment each other, a full wedding set makes the decision-making seamless. It’s an easy way to ensure everything goes together and looks amazing.

On the other hand, a wedding set is the perfect option to ensure the bride can wear both her engagement and her wedding ring if she so chooses. While some brides prefer one over the other for everyday life, it’s always nice to have the possibility of wearing them together. If you only want the bride’s rings to match, you can also get a bridal set that would only include an engagement and a wedding band for her (and not one for the groom).

From minimalist to vintage, trendy to a fully-customized one of a kind set, the choices in engagement rings and engagement ring sets is practically endless.  There is something for every taste and every budget.  Trust your local jeweler to help you realize your vision.
